🚨 Hare Coursing – Wantage and Grove 🚨

As we head deeper into the harvest season, our local farmland becomes more vulnerable to hare coursing – an illegal activity that causes damage to land, puts wildlife at risk, and threatens rural livelihoods.

πŸ‘Ž What is Hare Coursing?
Hare coursing involves the use of dogs to chase and kill hares for sport, often with bets placed on the outcome. This cruel and criminal act usually takes place on freshly harvested fields where visibility is high.

🚫 Why is it Illegal?
Hare coursing is banned under the Hunting Act 2004 and often involves other crimes such as trespassing, intimidation, and criminal damage. It also causes significant stress to farmers and local communities.

πŸ‘€ What to Look Out For:

β–ͺ️ Vehicles parked suspiciously near fields or gates (often 4x4s)

β–ͺ️ Groups of people with lurcher-type dogs

β–ͺ️ Trespassers walking across fields

β–ͺ️ Drones being used to scout land

β–ͺ️ Activity at dawn or dusk

πŸ“ž If you see anything suspicious, do not approach. Call us immediately:
999 if a crime is in progress
101 or report online if you have information

Let’s work together to protect our countryside and stop illegal hare coursing.
